From life. Yes, this book was truly inspired by
my real life cats. Here is their story:

BOOTS, my first tuxedo cat, moved in with me in my tiny apartment
In the Hollywood hills, just under the Hollywood sign, when her owner
Couldn’t take her along when she moved to New York city to become
A professional clown/juggler. (true story) We had her for 11 years, when
she died at age 17. We miss her still.

FRANKIE my second black & white, and first male cat, was adopted just after
I’d come through a serious medical crisis. I’d returned to work after being
away for three weeks, and realized life didn’t seem the same to me anymore.
I felt an urge to go visit animals at the local shelter to get away from the office…
And when I did, this three month old kitten reached out his paw and said
“I am your cat. Take me home and I will love you and make you smile again.”
And so I did. He healed me of a great sadness…and inspired many a fatcat
cartoon along the way!

SEYMOUR was my beloved third tuxedo cat. He was a crazy little scrapper,
and full of life and love. His life was short, but he will never be forgotten.

ANGEL is our fourth black and white. She is a crazy, loving, adorable little kitten
who drives Frank insane. Purrs like crazy. Cuddles all the time.
What more could anyone want?

AVA joined the family in August 2007. We adopted her from the C.A.T.S. Cat Shelter
in southern Oregon on a family visit. I was attending my class reunion and my
mom took my daughter to the shelter for "something to do." Little girl/kitten love
immediately ensued. It was kismet! I was just signing the contract with Sterling for
EVERYDAY CAT EXCUSES, and it seemed right to "give something back" to the cat world!
The good people at CATS made arrangements for shots so we could
take Ava on the plane that day. The little kitten went through airport security like a champ!
We arrived back home, and miraculously the other two cats welcomed her immediately.
Shortly after releasing the almost 3 month old kitten into our home, I looked and
saw that Ava (prenamed when we adopted her) was napping on my bed, with 14 pound Frank,
our big blackand white male. Frank and Ava. Seems meant to be, doesn't it?
